Clostridium butyricum can produce butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid involved in intestinal physiology. That makes it attractive in products built around the idea of influencing the gut environment.
Species is not enough
Probiotic effects can depend on the exact strain, dose, manufacturing process and storage. A label that lists only a species provides less information than one that identifies the strain and guarantees an amount through shelf life.
